M.Sc Health, Wellbeing and Social Care

This course is exclusively for those with Bachelor's degree in HSC or any health related field.
As healthcare continues to evolve, so must your skills and understanding. Our new Level 7 direct entry route provides a specialised pathway towards gaining a full M.sc qualification in Health, Wellbeing and Social Care — significantly broadening your personal and professional horizons in just one to two years of study.

Overview

Our new Level 7 direct entry route provides an intensive pathway, enabling you to gain a full BSc (Hons) qualification in Health, Wellbeing and Social Care in just a year or two of study. This is an excellent platform for developing your overall skillset, building specialised understanding across key areas within healthcare and adding significant overall value to your resume.
The learning structure has been designed to push you in your overall development with a rigorous curriculum, formative learning environment and expert teaching — all combined to give you the structure to excel in your studies.
What you gain during your year of study will give you the confidence to proceed into a successful future career in health or social care. Employers will appreciate your newly gained skills and experiences, but you will have the understanding to operate effectively today — with the scope to find the industry solutions of tomorrow.

Assessment

The assessment strategy has been carefully designed to enable students to develop a full range of knowledge, skills and competencies that are key in health and social care. The variety of assessments takes a broad range of factors into account including intended learning outcomes, professional standards in the health and social care industry, tudent demographics and our pedagogical approach — with each factor helping to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the learning experience.
We utilise a strategic and holistic approach to selection and design in our assessment strategy. Essays, reports, presentations, debates and small group projects have been identified as effective means for assessing student development. Where possible, we will use real-life simulations so that students can develop structured arguments through reflection, judgement and targeted evaluation. Students will also research specific areas and formulate objective conclusions — supported by appropriate referencing. In addition, students will be able to creatively use evidence-based writing skills to apply professional judgement in making recommendations and solving problems for future best practices. All group projects will require measured commitment and input from all members, objectively assessed through peer presentation and review.
Presentations will be performed individually and in groups that address concepts of a particular scenario. These assessments will also include a question-and-answer element.
Group debates will be conducted around a particular topic or subject area within health and social care. A proposition will be offered and defended within the group context. This will enable students to demonstrate the ability to work effectively with each other, respect inputs from fellow students, effectively present information and prepare persuasive arguments.

Entry Requirement

Applicants who have already been awarded a degree or equivalent qualification within the last 5 years from the UK
or a majority English language speaking country, or is a national of a majority English language speaking country:

1)Admissions interview on campus.
2)Degree classification of 2:2.
3)500-word Personal Statement.

Applicants who have a degree within 5 years from outside the UK/a majority English Language speaking country:

1)Admissions interview on campus.
2)Degree classification of 2:2.
3)500-word Personal Statement.
4)English Language CEFR Level B2.

Applicants who do not hold a degree or have a degree over 5 years old:

Funding Your Study

You can apply for financial help to support your studies by visiting gov.uk/student finance.
This could take the form of a Tuition Fee Loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees, and/or a Maintenance Loan to support you with living costs whilst studying.

If you are eligible, you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan which will be paid directly to your university or learning provider and is used to settle your tuition fees on your behalf. You will be required to start repaying the loan when you have finished your studies, and your income is above the required threshold set out by the UK Government.
If you are eligible, you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan, these funds are paid directly into your bank account in accordance with your course of study and pre-set intervals. The maintenance loan repayment operates in the same way as it does for tuition fee loans.
All students need to meet the eligibility criteria to apply such as eligibility checks on your nationality, residency status and any previous study that you have been funded for.
