HND Accounting & Financial Management

HND in Accounting & Financial Management is a 3-year course with Foundation Year taught across our London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester campuses. Whether you're interested in a career in accounting and financial management, or your aspiration is to launch and run your own successful business, numbers will be essential to your success. This degree programme will give you the foundations in all the latest principles, theories and applied practical skills in the exciting field of accounting and financial management.

Our industry-focussed programme delivers an accounting and finance degree that prepares you for a professional, managerial or business career. It will equip you with the highly-sought employability skills that employers are looking for, opening up opportunities for career progression and development. Combining theoretical learning and practical knowhow, you'll build knowledge on a wide range of accounting and finance-related topics. These include financial reporting, managerial accounting, audit and assurance, taxation, law and corporate finance.

Curriculum


The Institute of Financial Accountants, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants offer graduates of this course exemptions when applying for membership. The foundation year will prepare you for university-level study and introduce you to the key accounting and financial management contexts and concepts you'll need to progress through the rest of the course. Committing to study at degree level will give you transferrable skills that can be applied in any career context, whether that's climbing the corporate ladder in the accounting and financial management world, or having an impact as an entrepreneur. Entry Requirement


Applicants Must be Aged 18+ and:

Applicants Aged 21+:
  • 1)We welcome applications from students 21+ who do not match the standard entry requirements but who can
    demonstrate willingness and commitment to studying this subject, and who can evidence academic, professional
    or vocational experience in a related field.
  • 2)Demonstrate English proficiency: GCSE 4/C or CEFR B2.
  • 3)If you do not have this qualification, you can carry out an English test provided at the instruction campus.

    Assessment


    This course will provide you with opportunities to test your knowledge and understanding informally through ‘formative’ assessment. Formative assessment will be completed before your formal ‘summative’ assessment, which will determine your final marks.

    Each module normally contains at least one piece of formative assessment from which you will receive feedback from your course team. Formative assessments are purely for developmental purposes and do not count towards your final module mark. They are designed to help you to gain more knowledge and confidence in the module material and approaches to formal assessment. Students who do not engage with informal assessments often struggle with Foundation Year progression, as well as with the academic levels above.

    The formal summative assessment usually occurs towards the end of each module. Assessment methods may include written examinations and a range of coursework, including reports, portfolios, essays and presentations. The marks awarded for summative assessments count towards your final module mark. Assessment methods at GBS are reviewed annually and may be updated in consultation with students, for example in response to student or External Examiner feedback. An External Examiner is an independent academic expert from another higher education provider, and they are appointed by the Canterbury Christ Church University to provide external assurance regarding the academic standards of your course.

    Fees and Funding

    You can apply for financial help to support your studies by visiting gov.uk/student finance. This could take the form of a Tuition Fee Loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees, and/or a Maintenance Loan to support you with living costs whilst studying.

    • If you are eligible, you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan which will be paid directly to your university or learning provider and is used to settle your tuition fees on your behalf. You will be required to start repaying the loan when you have finished your studies, and your income is above the required threshold set out by the UK Government.

    • If you are eligible, you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan, these funds are paid directly into your bank account in accordance with your course of study and pre-set intervals. The maintenance loan repayment operates in the same way as it does for tuition fee loans.

    • All students need to meet the eligibility criteria to apply such as eligibility checks on your nationality, residency status and any previous study that you have been funded for.
